A Good Deal of Car Insurance

Finding a Sorting out the car insurance has never been anybody’s idea of a good time, and with this year’s economic downturn forcing us all to tighten our belts, it may seem like a task we would rather overlook. But the process needn’t be a complete headache. Just earmark a couple of hours this weekend, grab a cup of coffee and do a little shopping around from the comfort of your home. With a clear idea of what you are looking for, and a bit of time spent browsing online, you could find yourself a surprisingly good deal.

One of the key concerns topping motorists’ list, alongside obvious cost issues, is environmental impact. As UK citizens we really have no choice but to start taking responsibility for the damages we cause by CO2 emissions. Britain is one of the world’s biggest ‘motor’ countries, with an average of just over 2 cars per family. Yet it is also one of the most expensive places to drive, with fuel at over 112p a litre. Can we save money on driving and cut down on carbon emissions?

Surprisingly enough, yes you can. Although you might still think it’s just a place to go for your baked beans and vegetables, the Co-operative can offer some great deals on car insurance and help you do your bit for the environment. It is one of a handful of companies who offer to compensate for your car’s CO2 emissions by carbon offsetting 20% of whatever your vehicle usually burns. Further – and this is unique to the company – it is the only UK insurance company with an Ethical Engagement Policy, meaning that your conscience as a customer can be soothed.

Whoever and whatever you choose, always look out for the best added services on your policy. Many companies advertise these as ‘extras’ – but, especially if you have a strong claims record, these should really come as standard. These ‘extras’ include things like accident recover free of charge; breakdown cover at low cost (usually a couple of pounds extra a week – and this should cover the EU as well); and, of course, a no claims discount or bonus. Car insurance is by no means a doddle, but it doesn’t have to be a complete strain: look out for simple things like these and you should find the right deal for you.
